How to Analyze Your Marketing ROI
Measure your conversion rate
Start by calculating what percentage of your visitors convert. A 2% conversion rate on 10,000 visitors means 200 customers — raising that to 3% gets you 300. Use the conversion rate calculator to find your baseline.
Check your ad efficiency
Calculate your ROAS and CPC to understand whether your ad spend is working. A ROAS below 3x on a low-margin product means you're losing money. Check both metrics together: a low CPC with strong conversion is the sweet spot.
Maximize each transaction
Once traffic and conversion are healthy, increase AOV. A 10% AOV increase on 1,000 monthly orders at $50 AOV adds $5,000 in monthly revenue — without spending another dollar on ads.
Marketing Metrics 101
What marketing metrics should I track?+
Minimum: conversion rate, ROAS, and CPC. Add CPM for brand campaigns, AOV for ecommerce, and customer acquisition cost (CAC) for subscription businesses. Track all five to get a complete picture of your marketing ROI.
What's the most important marketing metric?+
ROAS is the bottom line — it tells you whether you're making money on ads. But ROAS alone is incomplete. Combine it with conversion rate (is your funnel working?) and AOV (are you maximizing transaction value?) for a full view.
What's a good conversion rate for paid ads?+
1-3% for cold traffic is average. Retargeting can reach 10%+. Google Search ads average 3.75% for the top position. The quality of your landing page, offer, and targeting each play a role — improving any one can double your conversion rate.
How do I know if my ad spend is profitable?+
Calculate your ROAS first (revenue / ad spend). Then subtract product cost, shipping, and platform fees to find your net margin. A 5x ROAS on a product with 30% margin means you're making $0.50 profit per dollar of ad spend. Use our ROAS and profit margin calculators together.
